In an explosion on Wednesday at the Indian Oil Corporation’s facility in Tondiarpet, leading to the death of a worker and causing severe injuries to another individual.

According to a Fire and Rescue Services official, the explosion took place while workers were involved in various tasks, including welding activities, specifically within an ethanol storage tank that had been emptied.

Immediate action was taken as five fire tenders were dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, it was noted that the fire had already been extinguished, credited to the IOCL’s in-house arrangements and fire safety protocols.

Tragically, one worker, identified as a welder, lost his life at the site, while another worker, who suffered severe injuries, was promptly rescued by authorities and subsequently admitted to the hospital.

The official stated that the precise cause of the mishap is yet to be determined.
