Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has appointed Anil Kumar Saumitra as a professor in the institute. He was selected among the 60 people who were interviewed for the post. The IIMC confirmed his selection on October 26 by sending the confirmation letter stating that he would be under a two-year probation period from the date of joining.

Anil Kumar was the head of the BJP Media cell in Madhya Pradesh but was removed from the party over a controversial statement that he gave. Anil Kumar faced criticism over his Facebook post in which he referred to Mahatma Gandhi as the ‘father of Pakistan.’

“He was the father of the nation, but of Pakistan. The country had crores of sons like him, some were worthy, some unworthy. Pakistan was born with the blessings of Bapu, therefore, Mahatma Gandhi can be called the father of Pakistan and not of India,” he had written in a Facebook post on May 16, 2019. After the controversy, he was suspended from the party’s initial membership as his social media posts were against party ethics.

This was not the first time when Anil Kumar was removed from the party. Earlier, he was removed over a controversial article which he composed when he was the editor of Charaiveti, the BJP’s mouthpiece in Madhya Pradesh. The controversy was over the article ‘Church ke nark me nun ka Jeevan’ in which he alleged the sexual exploitation of nuns in the Catholic Church.
