According to recent data released by the Election Commission of India, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has received a total of Rs 158 crore through electoral bonds from leading non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) between April 12, 2019, and January 11, 2024.

 The biggest opposition party that also received such donations through electoral bonds was the All-India Trinamool Congress, which got Rs 89 lakh, and the Congress party’s mother body, the All-India Congress Committee received Rs 1 crore.

Some of the notable NBFC donors to the ruling party BJP were Bajaj Finance, Muthoot Finance, ECL Finance, Piramal Capital & housing finance, Piramal Enterprises, and Infina Finance.

Among the NBFC donors to the BJP, the biggest were Infina Finance and Piramal enterprises with purchases of Rs 60 crore and Rs 35 crore worth of electoral bonds.

BJP encashed electoral bonds purchased by NBFCs such as Bajaj Finance, Muthoot Finance, Renuka Investment and Finance, Piramal Capital & housing finance, Piramal Enterprises, Infina Finance, and Authum Investment and Infrastructure.

Other political parties that also received donations through electoral bonds during the period of the 2019 general elections were the NCP, AAP, and JDS received donations through the same method.
