EC writes to Chief Secretaries of all states/UTs directing prohibition on victory celebrations ‘urgently’

The Election Commission of India instructs all the states/UT’s to immediately put a ban on the victory celebrations in the wake of aggravating Covid situation in the country.

Amid the assembly election results in four states plus one union territory getting declared, the Election Commission of India pens a letter to all the chief secretaries of the respective states/UT’s directing them to immediately shun all the victory rallies/celebrations ‘urgently’.

In addition to this, the EC specifies that the responsible SHO’s and other officers for violating the norms must be suspended immediately. Furthermore, strict legal action will be initiated against them, reported by news agency ANI.

Although, there’s a piece of information that came from Asansol, West Bengal that police personnel, following the EC’s direction, immediately instructed the TMC supporters to brush aside victory celebrations.

In addition to this, a ban has already been put on victory rallies/celebrations in Assam keeping in view the escalating rates of the contagion.

In this regard, the DGP of Assam has also appealed to all the political leaders to adhere to the guidelines of the Election Commission.
