Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday revealed that his scheduled helicopter journey in Manipur had to be abandoned due to heavy rains, forcing him to undertake a 65 km road trip from Imphal to Churachandpur.
“Due to heavy rains, my helicopter could not land, so I decided to travel by road. And today, seeing the scenes along the road, my heart says that it was a blessing from God that my helicopter did not fly. Travelling by road, witnessing the love and warmth shown by people of all ages, children and the elderly alike, carrying the tricolour along the way, is a moment I will never forget in my life,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

During his visit, the Prime Minister met families displaced by the ethnic violence that ravaged Churachandpur over two years ago, killing more than 260 people and leaving thousands homeless. Calling Manipur the “land of courage and determination,” he stressed that peace is a must for the state’s progress and assured displaced residents of the Centre’s continued support.
