Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed profound grief over the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, highlighting his illustrious career and exemplary humility.
In a heartfelt tweet, Dr. Singh reminisced about Dr. Singh’s decision to return to his alma mater, Punjab University, as a Professor of Economics after 52 years of prestigious assignments. He described Dr. Manmohan Singh as more than just a former Prime Minister, calling him a multifaceted personality — an esteemed academician, globally recognized economist, and statesman.
“India has lost an Academician who earned global recognition, an Economist who redefined the nation’s economic landscape, and a Statesman who presided over a government marked by scandals without a single insinuation on his person,” Dr. Singh noted.
Sharing a personal anecdote, Dr. Singh recalled Dr. Singh’s humility in personally seeing off guests, a gesture he himself had once experienced.
Hailing from Jhelum, now in Pakistan, Dr. Manmohan Singh was among the last iconic leaders shaped by the partition of the Indian subcontinent, Dr. Singh added, underscoring his towering legacy.
Dr. Manmohan Singh’s passing at the age of 92 has left the nation mourning a leader remembered for his intellectual brilliance, integrity, and humanity.
