Anand Mamani, a member of the BJP and the deputy speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, died on Sunday in a private hospital after a protracted illness, according to family sources. He was 56.

On Saturday night, the three times-elected MLA for the Saudatti legislative assembly constituency passed away. He left his wife, a son, and a daughter behind.

In honour of him, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai paid a visit to the hospital.

“Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of our party MLA and Deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly Anand Chandrashekhar Mamani. May his soul rest in eternal peace and may God give his family strength to bear the loss. Om Shanti,” Mr Bommai tweeted.

Chandrashekhar M. Mamani, the father of Anand Mamani, had previously held the position of deputy speaker in the 1990s.
