Golcha confirmed that all top investigative and forensic agencies — including the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) — are on the spot, working together to determine the cause and nature of the explosion.
According to preliminary inputs, the explosion’s magnitude suggests it was not a typical CNG blast, as initially speculated, but a deliberate high-intensity detonation. Forensic experts are analysing metal fragments, wiring, and residue recovered from the site to confirm whether an improvised explosive device (IED) was used.
The blast, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station, resulted in a massive fire that engulfed nearby vehicles, leaving at least eight people dead and several injured, according to hospital sources.
Delhi Police has cordoned off the entire area, and traffic diversions have been imposed around Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and Daryaganj. Security has been ramped up across Delhi-NCR, with dog squads and anti-terror units deployed for area sweeps.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay calm, avoid the area, and refrain from circulating unverified videos or messages related to the incident.
