Deputy Chief Fire Officer A.K. Malik provided the first official statement following the car explosion near Chandni Chowk Metro Station, close to Delhi’s Red Fort, on Monday evening.

Speaking to the media, Malik said, “We received information that there was a blast in a car near Chandni Chowk Metro Station. We responded immediately, and seven fire units were sent to the spot. At 7:29 PM, the fire was brought under control. There is a possibility that there are casualties in this. All our teams are present at the spot.”

Authorities confirmed that the fire was contained within an hour, but several nearby vehicles were damaged in the blast. Police and forensic teams have cordoned off the area to investigate the cause, while fire department officials continue to conduct cooling operations to prevent reignition.

Traffic diversions have been implemented around Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, and commuters are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
