The casualty toll from Monday evening’s Red Fort car blast has risen, with eight people confirmed dead on the spot, according to reports from LNJP Hospital.

Hospital authorities further confirmed that three others remain in critical condition, while one person is stable and under observation. The victims were brought in shortly after the explosion, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station around 6:30 PM.

The fire department, Delhi Police Special Cell, and forensic teams are on-site, while the area remains cordoned off. Initial visuals from the scene showed multiple vehicles engulfed in flames as emergency teams battled to contain the fire.

Officials are yet to determine whether the incident was caused by a CNG explosion or an IED-based blast, though experts suggest that the blast radius and damage pattern point to a stronger explosive source.

Security has been tightened across Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh, with alerts issued to major cities and sensitive installations.
