Delhi Police arrests 22-year-old boy for giving death threat to PM Modi

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Delhi after he allegedly made a phone call with a death threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The man, identified as Salman, made the call to the police last night, issuing the threat, the police said.

Senior officers of Delhi Police are questioning him after his arrest by cops from northeast Delhi’s Khajoori Khas police station. Salman has several cases against him and was out bail, the police found out while questioning him. He told them that he made the threat call in order to return to jail.

In January last year, a man was also arrested on charges of issuing death threats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Police said. He identified as Anwar, a resident of Peruvai employed in a foreign country, according to sources.

He had posted messages Online against the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), police said. He was also allegedly spreading audio messages which had gone viral on WhatsApp groups provoking people to indulge in communal violence.

A complaint was registered in this regard at the Vittal police station by a man named Yathish, the sources said. As per the complaint, Anwar in his messages allegedly threatened to kill Modi and Amit Shah if Muslims were affected by the CAA and NRC. Police, who were tipped about Anwar’s visit to his hometown on January 6, arrested him, the sources added.
