The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR & Adjoining Areas (CAQM) has triggered Stage-I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) as Delhi’s air quality deteriorates. The decision was made following the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 212, pushing it from the ‘Moderate’ to the ‘Poor’ category. Effective immediately, the 27-point action plan under Stage-I will be enforced throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).Pollution Control Boards and DPCC, have been directed to implement measures to curb pollution. The CAQM appeals to citizens to follow guidelines outlined in the Citizen Charter of Stage-I, emphasizing steps such as maintaining vehicles, reporting air-polluting activities through designated apps, and adopting eco-friendly practices during festivals. The 27-point action plan includes measures to mitigate dust in construction activities, proper waste disposal, mechanized road cleaning, and stringent enforcement of pollution control regulations in industries. Stringent actions against overaged vehicles, industrial units, and compliance with emission norms in thermal power plants are also outlined. To enhance public awareness, the CAQM plans to use social media and mobile apps to disseminate pollution levels, contact details of control rooms, and avenues for reporting polluting activities. Additionally, citizens are encouraged to use unified commuting for employees to reduce traffic congestion. The CAQM promises to remain vigilant and regularly review the air quality situation.
