A day after the Centre termed the Delhi car explosion a ‘terror incident’, investigators confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was Dr. Umar Nabi, a medical professional from Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir.
DNA tests conducted on November 11 matched samples taken from Umar’s mother with remains found at the blast site near Red Fort, confirming his identity.
According to preliminary reports, Dr. Umar Nabi, who taught at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, was the sole occupant of the car when it exploded on Monday, November 10. Authorities suspect he may have been attempting to flee an ongoing multi-state police raid involving teams from Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, which has so far resulted in eight arrests, including three doctors.
In light of the incident, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that the Lal Quila Metro Station will remain closed until further notice due to security reasons. “All other metro lines and stations are operational,” the DMRC said in its statement, urging commuters to remain patient amid heightened security checks across the capital.
The investigation continues under the supervision of national security agencies, with officials promising a thorough probe and justice for those affected by the explosion.
