Friday, Nov 7: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were severely disrupted today after a major technical failure in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) — a critical component supporting Air Traffic Control (ATC) flight planning.
According to an official advisory issued by Delhi Airport at 13:42 hours, all airline operations were delayed as authorities worked to restore normalcy. The disruption, which began earlier in the day, has now stretched to almost six hours, causing widespread delays across domestic and international flights.
The AMSS system, responsible for transmitting essential air traffic data and coordination messages, reportedly went offline around mid-morning, forcing controllers to switch to manual operations. This led to cascading delays, with many flights held on the ground or diverted.
Airlines have been continuously updating revised schedules as passengers face long waiting hours. The Delhi Airport advisory urged travelers to stay in touch with their respective airlines for real-time updates.
Authorities confirmed that technical teams from AAI (Airports Authority of India) and DGCA are jointly investigating the cause of the outage. While the issue is being addressed, flight operations remain significantly affected as of late afternoon.
