India Meteorological Department (IMD) took to social media platform X, to warn against the upcoming Cyclone Tej. “Depression over SW Arabian Sea intensified into DD about 880 km E-SE of Socotra (Yemen).To intensify into a CS over SW Arabian Sea during the next 12 hours and further intensify into a SCS in the evening of 22nd Oct,” said IMD.

“Deep depression over SW Arabian Sea intensified into a CS Tej about 670 km E-SE of Socotra (Yemen).To intensify into SCS in the next 12 hours and further into a VSCS in the subsequent 24 hours. To cross Yemen Oman coasts bet Al Ghaidah (Yemen) & Salalah (Oman) around early morning of 25 Oct,” added IMD.
Unlikely Cyclone Biparjoy, Tej is not anticipated to affect Gujrat, however alert is made by the Tamil Nadu weather agency. The forecast suggests that this storm is expected to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday.
Manorama Mohanty, director of the Meteorological Centre in Ahmedabad, told PTI: “Since the cyclone would move towards west-northwest, it may not have any impact on Gujarat (which lies to the east). Weather in Gujarat will remain dry for the next seven days.”
