A 38-year-old woman and her 13-year-old son were found stabbed to death inside their home in Gali No. 10, Govindpuri, Kalkaji in south Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday, May 21, in what police suspect was a robbery-turned-murder. The victims have been identified as Sharda Sahu and her Class 7 student son.
What happened
Vishnu Sahu, a fruit and vegetable vendor, returned home shortly after midnight and found the front door latched from the outside — an immediate indication that something was wrong. Upon entering, he discovered the bodies of his wife Sharda and their son, both with multiple stab wounds. He called emergency services at 1:11 AM, triggering a rapid police response.
Crime scene inspection revealed that cash and jewellery had been stolen from the almirahs inside the house, pointing to robbery as the likely motive behind the killings. The latched front door suggests the perpetrators entered while the family was home and secured the door from outside after committing the crime — indicating premeditation or at minimum a calculated attempt to delay discovery.
Police response
A case has been registered under Sections 103 and 309(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita — covering murder and dacoity with murder respectively. Multiple investigation teams have been formed and dispatched to trace and arrest the culprits. Delhi Police have not yet announced any arrests or named suspects.
The Govindpuri area falls under the Kalkaji police district in south Delhi. Forensic teams have been deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene.
