Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Nana Patole on Friday expressed grief at the death of Devisinh Shekhawat, saying his party has lost a loyal worker.
The news of the death of Devisinh Shekhawat, husband of the country’s first woman President Pratibhatai Patil and senior Congress leader, is heartbreaking. He did not leave the Congress ideology till the end, said Mr Patole.
Devi Singh Shekhawat was active in educational, social and political fields. In 1972, he completed his Ph.D. from Mumbai University. He was the principal of the college run by the Vidyabharati Shikshan Sanstha Foundation.
He was the first Mayor of Amravati Municipal Corporation and was elected from Amravati in the 1985 assembly elections. He was also a member of the All India Congress Committee.
“With his death, a true pike of Congress thought has gone behind the curtain of time. By paying emotional tributes to Devisinh Shekhawat, MPCC shared the grief of the Shekhawat-Patil family, added Patole.
