Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 9: Criticizing BJP leaders visiting Bishop houses and homes of Christians as part of their efforts to woo minority communities ahead of the 2024 general elections, Congress leaders including Dr Shashi Tharoor on Sunday asked people to reject BJP’s “hypocrisy” citing various incidents of attacks against Christians.
Dr. Shashi Tharoor tweeted that “BJP leaders talk out of both sides of their mouth to Christians. They should be asked about this, about attacks on churches over Xmas, dragging pastors off to police stations in the midst of services, & calls for Christians in NE to be stripped of ST status. Which is the real BJP ?.”
Kerala Pradesh Congress Party (KPCC) President K Sudhakaran tweeted that “BJP Minister in Karnataka calls for violence against Christians, stating they should be thrashed so they don’t return. The hypocrisy is evident as @BJP4Keralam leaders visit Christian homes on #Easter. It is important for people to recognize and reject this hypocrisy.”
Opposition leader VD Satheesan tweeted that “In Karnataka BJP leader and minister Muniratna says beat up christians, in Kerala BJP leaders are hoping from Bishop’s house to Bishop house to give Easter Greetings! What wonderful double face, what impudence.”
Responding to the BJP’s campaign, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan tweeted that “A fruitful interaction on the auspicious occasion of #EasterSunday. Met Archbishop of Latin Archidiose of Trivandrum – His Grace Most Rev.Dr.Thomas J Netto & conveyed warm greetings & best wishes.”
