As per intelligence agency Recorded Future, China has hacked Ladakh’s (Indian territory) electricity grid in recent months. On Wednesday the intelligence firm reported this. China and India have for a month reached a stalemate position.
A spokesperson from Recorded Future revealed stating, ” We have noticed several network interceptions attacking close to 7 Indian SLDC (State Load Despatch Centre) which are crucial for running operation for the control of the grid and dispatch of electricity within these 7 SLDC. Interestingly these all are in close proximity to North India, located very near to the arguable Indo-China border in the vicinity of Ladakh. Apart from the power grids that were attacked, we also experienced our National Emergency Response System and a sister concern of an MNC logistics, taking a hit due to hacking by these Chinese backed hackers.”
Much ahead of breaking the news to the public, Recorded Future intimated this report to the Indian government.
”The objective for intrusions may include gaining an increased understanding of these complex systems in order to facilitate capability development for future use or gaining sufficient access across the system in preparation for future contingency operations,” Recorded Future said.
It is quite alarming to find out from the world’s largest cyber-espionage tracker Recorded Future that Chinese hackers were looking for crucial cyberinfrastructure information.
Another spokesperson from Recorded Future stated, “What we feel the possible reason for these attacks going on for 18 months now could be they are looking to understand the complex integrated systems for later use or they want to understand how to get access across these electricity grids for future emergencies.”
