Chennai metro, long distance bus and passenger train services resume in Tamil Nadu

The Chennai Metro Rail services, long-distance buses and passenger trains linking various districts in Tamil Nadu resumed services on Monday.

The Chennai Metro Rail services, long-distance buses and passenger trains linking various districts in Tamil Nadu resumed services on Monday. Metro service was stopped for 5 months and trains for 2 months because of COVID-19.

The metro services will be only till 8 p.m and the stoppage time at stations is increased to 50 seconds from 20 so that passengers can enter and exit by maintaining social distance. Stickers were stuck and markings have been made both in trains and platforms so that passengers could sit on alternate seats. Metro has currently begun operations in the Blueline between Airport and Washermanpet via Anna Salai. 

Bus services have been resumed in a full-fledged manner after being suspended on June 27.

Also, trains within Tamil Nadu including the daily Chennai-Coimbatore Intercity, Chennai Egmore TiruchchirappalliChennai Egmore and Coimbatore- Mayiladuthurai-Coimbatore Janshatabdi Special (except Tuesdays) resumed services. Contactless ticket checking was done at the platform and temperature of passengers was monitored through thermal cameras and trains and platforms were sanitised using disinfectants.
