Cabinet approves key initiatives for agriculture, oilseed production, and Chennai Metro Rail expansion

The Cabinet has approved the PM-Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and Krishonnati Yojana (KY), aiming to enhance sustainable agriculture and achieve food security. The schemes focus on promoting self-sufficiency in agriculture and boosting the overall agricultural sector. The total combined proposed expenditure for these schemes stands at ₹1 lakh crore, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting India’s agricultural growth and development.

National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-Oilseeds)

With an ambitious target to make India self-reliant in oilseed production over the next seven years, the Cabinet has approved the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-Oilseeds) for the period 2024-25 to 2030-31. The outlay for this mission is ₹10,103 crore. This initiative is designed to strengthen domestic oilseed production and reduce dependence on imports, ensuring food security and fostering self-reliance in edible oil production.

Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase II Expansion

The Cabinet has given the green light for the second phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, which will include three corridors with a total of 128 stations, spanning 118.9 kilometers of new metro lines. The project has a proposed expenditure of ₹63,246 crore and aims to improve urban mobility, reduce congestion, and enhance connectivity in Chennai. This metro expansion reflects the government’s focus on developing modern urban transportation and infrastructure to facilitate growth and ease of movement in the city.
