According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, on Wednesday, the Cabinet gave approval to the extension of Digital India project with an expenditure of Rs 14,903 crore.

The Minister stated that the work carried out under the older version of this scheme would be complemented by an extended Digital India project.

He said, “Prime Minister in the cabinet meeting has approved Digital India programme with outlay of Rs 14,903 crore.”

It was also added by him that 5.25 lakh IT professionals will be retrained and trained while 2.65 lakh persons will be trained in IT under the project.

Nine additional supercomputers will be added under the National Supercomputing Mission (NCM) as a part of the extended Digital India project.

According to Minister Vaishnaw, 18 super computers have already been deployed under NCM.
