BJP names Dinesh Sharma as its Rajya Sabha candidate from UP

BJP announced former Deputy CM of UP Dr Dinesh Sharma as its candidate in by-election for one vacant seat of Rajya Sabha from UP.

Lucknow, Sep 3 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dr Dinesh Sharma as its candidate in by-election for one vacant seat of Rajya Sabha from UP.

An official release naming Sharma as BJP candidate was issued by national general secretary Arun Singh. It may be noted that the by-poll on the Rajya Sabha seat is being held following the demise of sitting member and senior BJP leader Hardwar Dubey in June.

Dubey, who took oath as the Rajya Sabha member in November 2020 passed away after prolonged illness on June 24.

It may be noted that before serving as the Deputy CM of UP between 2017 to 2022, Sharma had held various important posts in the organisation. He served as the national vice-president of the party along with the charge of Gujarat.

He also served as the Mayor of Lucknow for two consecutive terms from 2006 to 2017.

It may be mentioned that the Election Commission issued the notification for the by-poll on August 29 and September 5 is the last day to file the nomination. Polling will be held on September 15 and the result will be announced on the same day.
