As the Chhattisgarh state assembly elections are scheduled for next year, the Bhartiya Janata Party appoints Bilaspur MP Arun Sao as the state party chief on Tuesday 9th August 2022.
“BJP chief JP Nadda has appointed Bilaspur MP Arun Sao as the Chhattisgarh party president with immediate effect,” said the party in a statement.
Sao replaced the party’s tribal leader, Vishnudeo Sai, who has served as a Member of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and has served as the Minister of State and held the Steel, Mines and Labour Employment portfolios.
Making Sao the state BJP chief comes in a response to the Congress’ “son of the soil” image as Sao belongs to the Sahu community of Chhattisgarh. His allegiance to RSS was one of the key factors of his appointment. Sao had long worked for the RSS students’ wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Sao became MP for the first time 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Vishnudeo Sai was summoned to Delhi three days back to discuss his replacement.
The state assembly elections are scheduled for the next year 2023, Raman Singh from the BJP has ruled the state for 15 years from 2003 to 2018 ruling the lion’s share of the existence of the state in 2000.
BJP just won 15 seats out of the 90 seats, whereas Congress won 68. The BJP looks to ramp up its efforts in order to win the seat of chief minister back.
