With heavy rains lashing Bengaluru, the city has been placed under an orange alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). As a precaution, the Bengaluru government has ordered the closure of schools on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Companies have also been advised to allow employees to work from home to ensure safety amid the continuing downpours.

Bengaluru has been experiencing incessant rain since early Tuesday morning, leading to widespread waterlogging and severe traffic jams in several areas. The orange alert was issued due to the increasing intensity of rains, as stated in a government order.

While schools and anganwadi centres in the Bengaluru district have been directed to close, colleges will remain open. However, college principals have been given a set of safety guidelines to follow, ensuring students’ protection during these difficult weather conditions.

Schools have been asked to shift to online classes for higher grades, while lower grade students have been assigned home-based tasks and assignments.

Additionally, Thursday, October 17, is already a state government holiday in Karnataka due to Valmiki Jayanti.
