Bengaluru’s Manyata Tech Park, a key hub for technology companies, was left severely waterlogged on October 15 following heavy rains in the city. Videos circulating on social media showed flooded roads inside the tech park, located in Nagawara, causing disruptions for employees and residents alike.
The junction near RGA Tech Park on Sarjapur Road, under the Carmelaram Railway overbridge, also faced severe flooding. Similarly, the Wipro Gate area on Sarjapur Road saw extensive waterlogging.
Traffic police reported gridlocks across major routes, including Outer Ring Road, Tumakuru Road, and Airport Road, leaving many motorists stranded. School buses were also affected, sparking demands for work-from-home arrangements for tech employees and online classes for students.
Social media calls urged companies to provide work-from-home options for the next two days to ease the city’s traffic and ensure safety. “It would be appropriate if companies can provide or encourage WFH for the next two days. This would reduce traffic in the city and ensure life is easier,” read one tweet from a weather account tracking the situation.
Although TV reports suggested the Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Wednesday, no official confirmation has been issued yet.
The city’s waterlogging issues have reignited discussions around the need for better infrastructure to handle seasonal rains, as more heavy rainfall is expected in the coming days.
