Banking services across India are expected to be impacted today, August 28, due to a nationwide strike called by the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA). The strike is in protest against the Bank of India’s decision to charge-sheet thirteen office bearers of the Bank of India Staff Union in Kerala.
The AIBEA has organized this strike to oppose what they describe as politically motivated actions against their members. According to AIBEA General Secretary C.H. Venkatachalam, among those charge-sheeted are four ex-servicemen, including three who participated in the Kargil war.
Venkatachalam also highlighted that the strike is a reaction to the Bank of India’s disciplinary actions taken against the staff union members who attended their 23rd Biennial Conference. The strike aims to express dissatisfaction with these measures and is supported by various trade unions.
