Baba Siddique, a three-time MLA and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was killed on Saturday night, and Mumbai police have now confirmed the involvement of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in the killing, as reported by Indian Express.
Siddique was shot and killed by three assailants, two of whom are in custody, in spite of Y-level category security, ahead of the Assembly elections which are expected to be held in November.
In the meanwhile, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has said that Siddique, who was a minister in the Maharashtra Cabinet from 2004 to 2008, will receive a state funeral.
The incident happened while Siddique was getting into his car after leaving his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s, Bandra East office. The assailants fired six or seven shots at him, two of which struck him in the chest and one in the abdomen, according to the police. He suffered several major injuries and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he was pronounced dead during treatment.
