An Earthquake of 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hits Goalpara Assam at 8:45 a.m today as said by the National Centre for seismology.
According to the Nation Centre for Seismology, the area was seismically very active as it fell under the highest Seismic Hazard Zone V, which was associated with the collisional tectonics where the Indian plate subducts beneath the Eurasian Plate.
Goalpara has had 3 earthquakes in the past thirty days, of which this 5.2 magnitude earthquake was the highest.
The National Centre for Seismology in a tweet has mentioned that the depth of the earthquake from the land was 14 km and the location was 71 km North of Tura Meghalaya. The time of the earthquake was 08:45 a.m.
