Arvind Kejriwal moves to Supreme Court as ED pursues money laundering probe

The news of Kejriwal’s potential arrest led to media personnel swarming the Supreme Court premises in anticipation of a late-night hearing. This speculation arose after ED officials visited Kejriwal’s residence in the evening, shortly after the high court declined to grant him protection from coercive action in the same case.

Hours after the Delhi High Court denied him relief, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal rushed to the Supreme Court on Thursday evening seeking protection from coercive action by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to the excise policy. However, Kejriwal’s counsel and senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi stated to PTI that no urgent hearing is being sought in the apex court.

In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) at 9:20 PM, AAP leader Atishi stated, “We have moved the Supreme Court for quashing the arrest of Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal, by ED. We have asked for an urgent hearing by the Supreme Court tonight itself.”

According to sources, the ED team arrived at Kejriwal’s residence to serve him a summons concerning the ongoing money laundering probe. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief had previously failed to appear before the agency despite multiple summonses in the case related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Delhi excise policy.

While Kejriwal and his party have maintained that the case is a political vendetta by the BJP-led central government, the BJP has accused Kejriwal of trying to evade the investigation.
