Air India flight AI129, operating from Mumbai to London, has turned back mid-route and is currently returning to Mumbai, according to real-time tracking data from Flightradar24. The flight had departed in the early hours of June 13 but was observed rerouting over the Arabian Sea before beginning its return.
As of now, no official reason has been disclosed by Air India or Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regarding the decision to turn around. Passengers on board are being monitored, and more details are expected shortly.
The development comes amid a tense global backdrop. Earlier today, Asian and global markets reacted sharply following Israel’s confirmed airstrike on Iranian nuclear targets. Separately, India is still grappling with the aftermath of the devastating Air India AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, which resulted in over 300 confirmed fatalities, including all 242 people on board and residents in the impacted area.
Authorities have not linked today’s flight diversion to either of these incidents. Investigations are underway, and Air India is expected to release a statement.
