Following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 shortly after takeoff, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA), Ahmedabad, has temporarily suspended all flight operations.
A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that all arrivals and departures have been halted in the wake of the incident. “As a result of the Air India plane crash incident, SVPIA is currently not operational. All flight operations are temporarily suspended until further notice,” the spokesperson stated.
The crash, involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner headed to London Gatwick, occurred just beyond the airport perimeter, in the Meghaninagar area, and rescue operations are currently ongoing. With over 240 passengers and crew members on board, authorities are still assessing the full extent of damage and casualties.
Passengers are advised to check with airlines before heading to the airport, and further updates will be shared once the airport resumes operations.
