Indian Army’s Leh-based ‘Fire and Fury Corps’, on Sunday, informed about the death of a fireman while on duty at Siachen Glacier. All ranks of Fire and Fury Corps have condoled the death of Maharashtra’s Agniveer Gavate Akshay Laxman. Siachen Glacier, located at an altitude of about 20,000 feet in the Karakoram mountain range, is known as the world’s highest militarised area where soldiers have to battle extreme cold and strong winds. It is not yet known what caused Laxman’s death.

“Quartered in snow silent to remain, when the bugle calls they shall rise and march again. All ranks of Fire and Fury Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of #Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman, in the line of duty, in the unforgiving heights of #Siachen and offer deepest condolences to the family,” wrote ‘Fire and Fury Corps’ on social media platform X, expressing deep condolences towards him & family.

The Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army) also wrote on X, “General Manoj Pande #COAS and All Ranks of the #IndianArmy salute the supreme sacrifice of #Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman, in the line of duty, in the unforgiving heights of #Siachen. #IndianArmy stands firm with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

Earlier, in an unfortunate incident, Agniveer Amritpal Singh died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while on sentry duty in Rajouri sector on October 11, an Army release said.
