After Bihar, now Andhra Pradesh cabinet gives approval to caste-based census in state

Cabinet of Andhra Pradesh, chaired by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday decided and approved for the caste-based census in the state for providing the socio-economic benefits to the oppressed class and identify their exact number.

After the meeting was concluded, State information and public relations minister C Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna told the reporters, “The chief minister observed such a comprehensive caste survey would help alleviate the lives of oppressed classes and take their social empowerment to the next level.” (quoted by Hindustan Times)

He further said: “The survey will help create a database of the weaker sections in the society, so that the government could extend its welfare schemes and other economic benefits.” “We can plan more poverty alleviation programmes and human resources development schemes to remove the economic disparities in the society.”

The cabinet also decided to initiate YSR Aarogyasri programme from Nov 15 to Dec 15 which aims at educating the weaker sections about free medical treatment in the listed hospitals via Aarogyasri App. Also, the cabinet made an approval of investments worth 19,037crore to provide employment opportunities to 69,565 persons.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet also gave its approval to give house plots to journalists. The cabinet has decided that accredited journalists will be given 3 cents space. “With this decision, CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is making the dream of owning a journalist a reality,” said YSR Congress in a statement.

The cabinet also decided and passed idea of allotment of land for construction of various government offices and other infrastructural works.
