87 criminals sent to Odisha jail for snatching devotees’ mobile phones

Police have rounded up 87 criminals who have snatched mobile phones and gold chains from devotees taking advantage of rush during the recently concluded Car festival in Odisha’s temple town of Puri.

Puri, July. 4 : Police have rounded up 87 criminals who have snatched mobile phones and gold chains from devotees taking advantage of rush during the recently concluded Car festival in Odisha’s temple town of Puri, an official said on Tuesday.

Police recovered 123 mobile phones. About 60 victims got back their mobile phones after furnishing ownership details, DSP K K Harprasad told media persons here.

He said while 44 criminals are from the state, 23 are from West Bengal, eight from Andhra Pradesh, five from Uttar Pradesh, four from Chhatrisgarh and one each from Jharkhand, Telangana and MP.

All of them were forwarded to the court which sent them to jail custody after rejecting their bail, city DSP Haraparasad said.
