Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasized the need for education in the mother tongue and said that the New Education Policy(NEP) is the key to fight poverty.
“When underprivileged people’s daughters or sons study in the mother tongue and become professionals, it will do justice with their efficiency. I consider the new National Education Policy as a means to fight against poverty,” he said while addressing the nation.
Sports, according to the prime minister is another means to move forward in life. “There is another special feature of the new National Education Policy. In this, sports have been made a part of mainstream education instead of extracurricular. Sports are also one of the most effective means of moving forward in life.”
Talking about the development in rural areas, he said “ Today we are seeing our villages changing rapidly. The last few years have been providing facilities like roads and electricity to the villages. Now the villages are getting the power of optical fibre network, data, the internet is reaching. Digital entrepreneurs are being prepared in the village too.”
The disparity of facilities in urban and rural areas became more evident during the pandemic. With schools and work going online, connectivity became a major issue in rural areas, amplifying the digital divide.
Modi also announced that an e-commerce platform will be developed by the government to help budding women entrepreneurs in villages sell their products at the national and global levels.
