74th Independence Day: “Neighbors are those who meet our hearts,” says PM Modi in his address to the nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the nation today, talked about the importance of the cordial relationship that India shares with its neighbors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on the 74th Independence Day of our country stressed on the importance of having a cordial relation with all its neighbors who share a common set of values. He said that neighbors are not only ones with whom we share a border, but all those who have a bonding of heart with us.

“Today, neighbors are not only those with whom we share our geographical boundaries but also with whom our emotions meet,” the Prime Minister said.

He said that currently ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) has a great partnership with India and at the same time, has shared for centuries, mutual values, and culture.

He also added how India is maintaining close relations in the neighborhood and are working together with mutual respect for one another.

In his speech, he also appreciated the nations in the west for working together in fighting COVID-19 pandemic and thanked the countries in the east for being crucial to bring peace and economic growth in the region.

However, the speech also seemed to deliver a sharp message to two of our neighbors, China and Pakistan although their names were not explicitly mentioned. He spoke about how soldiers have given fitting response to anyone who has challenged India, referring to the standoff at the East Ladakh border.

His speech highlighted that sovereignty is supreme for us.
