Speaking today about the ongoing recovery operations since the tragic Chamoli glacier break last week in Uttarakhand, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Deputy Commandant Aditya Pratap Singh told the media that, “A total of 8 bodies have been recovered from here (Tapovan tunnel) so far. Operation is still underway. NDRF is working 24/7.”

“A total of seven bodies have been recovered in Raini, so a total of 15 bodies have been recovered from the two work sites,” he added.

According to police officials stationed at Chamoli, 179 cases reports of missing people have been registered at Joshimath Police Station, while as of today, a total of 54 dead bodies have been retrieved from the search operation.

As of Monday, 3 bodies have been recovered today from the Tapovan tunnel as the relief and rescue operation goes on.

The NDRF has met with several issues as they try to run the rescue operation. A Commandant of the NDRF, PK Tiwari said that “Tonnes of the debris is stuck inside the tunnel. There is a limitation to the amount of work that can be done.”

The Alaknanda River at Srinagar in Pauri Garhwal has been flowing at normal speeds, and no alert has been issued by the district administration.
