India is a peace loving country that had never invaded any country its 100000 years of history. But other countries specially Pakistan and China have attacked India again and again that had led to several wars over the span of 73 years after India’s independence.
Here are some major wars India has fought after Independence :-
1) Indo-Pak war 1947:-
Pakistan got into war with India in the very year of its formation. The reason of the war was to take control of Jammu and Kashmir.
2) Indo-China war 1962:-
This war happened when Chinese military invaded Indian territory in Ladakh and across the Macmohan line. The war ended after a month when China declared ceasefire.
3) Indo-Pak war 1965:-
The reason of this war was actually a series of encounters that took place between India and Pakistan within April 1965 and September 1965. The 17 day long war was the biggest tank battle after world war 2. This war ended at the beginning of 1966 when India and Pakistan signed a peace agreement named Tashkhent Declaration.
4) Indo-Pak war 1971:-
India government helped East Pakistan ( now Bangladesh ) in Bangladesh liberation war. Pakistani politicians started campaigning, calling people to ‘Crush India’. The war was officially marked with the Air force strike by Pakistan on December 3, 1971.
5) Kargil war 1999:-
It took place between May and July of 1999 in the Kargil district of Ladakh. It is also known as Operation Vijay in India. Pakistan was heavily criticized by other countries for crossing the LOC and instigating the war.
