At least four people were killed and nine others injured after a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus rammed into pedestrians while reversing near Bhandup railway station in Mumbai on Monday night, officials said.
The incident occurred at around 10:05 pm on Monday, December 29, 2025, on the busy Station Road in Bhandup West, a crowded stretch that witnesses heavy pedestrian movement during late evening hours.
According to preliminary information, the BEST bus was reversing when it struck several pedestrians standing on the roadside, triggering panic among bystanders. A police official said the bus hit people in a densely crowded area, leading to chaos at the spot.

Among those killed were three women and one man, while the injured included one woman and eight men. All injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, and their condition was awaited at the time of reporting.
Following the accident, emergency response teams were immediately deployed after the Mumbai Fire Brigade control room received an alert. Fire brigade personnel, police teams, BEST staff and 108 ambulance services rushed to the scene to carry out rescue and relief operations.
Police cordoned off the area and are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the accident. Further details are expected as authorities continue their probe.
