3 terrorists killed, 1 jawan injured in the Shopian encounter

A top commander of the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror group is reportedly trapped along with militants in Jammu & Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Three terrorists were reportedly gunned down in an encounter between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district. The recent reports also suggest that one security personnel sustained injuries amid the crossfire.

The fierce gun battle took place at Jan Mohalla in the Shopian town on Thursday as Two-three militants were trapped by the security forces inside a house.

According to the police officials, the security personnel launched a cordon and search operation at Baba Mohalla after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists. The jawans retaliated as the terrorists opened fire on the security forces.

“Shopian Encounter Update: 3 unidentified terrorists killed. Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” the Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet on Thursday.

It is also being reported that amongst the trapped militants, one of them is the top commander of the Al-Qaeda inspired terror outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. The militant organization has been coordinating with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in Jammu and Kashmir.

The encounter in the Shopian district started when forces from the Army, police and the CRPF cordoned off the Jan Mohalla in Shopian on the basis of specific input about the presence of militants in the area, suggest the recent reports.

The exchange fire between the security personnel and the militants resulted in an encounter. IG Police Vijay Kumar and GOC Victor Force reportedly rushed to the spot and are currently monitoring the operation which continues to be in progress as more updates are still awaited.

Considering the recent encounter, internet services have been terminated in the Shopian and Pulwama districts.
