Union Budget 2024: FM Sitharaman pushes forward spiritual tourism with new developments

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled plans to enhance spiritual tourism in India. The budget includes support for developing corridors at the Vishnupad Temple and the Mahabodhi Temple, inspired by the success of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple project. Additionally, Nalanda in Bihar is set to be promoted as a key tourist destination.

Sitharaman also outlined plans to introduce an economic policy framework for next-generation reforms aimed at boosting growth. Support will be provided to Odisha for tourism development, reflecting the government’s commitment to expanding this sector.

Highlighting infrastructure investments, Sitharaman announced that over ₹11 lakh crore has been allocated for capital expenditure, representing 3.4% of the GDP. The government aims to boost private sector investment in infrastructure through viability gap funding and supportive policies.
