The monsoon season is the ideal time for exploring the southern Indian state of Karnataka and its verdant surroundings. The hills, valleys, forests and waterfalls that spread across the region are made more beautiful and pleasant by the rains. Furthermore, there are thrilling treks that will test your stamina and reward you with breathtaking vistas, perfect for adventure seekers.
Here are 5 monsoon treks you can do in Karnataka this weekend
1. Kudremukh
Kudremukh is an ideal monsoon trek, nestled in the Chikmagalur district, right in the heart of the western ghats. It is a part of the second-largest wildlife protected area in the western ghats, Kudremukh National Park. The Kudremukh trek offers a wide range of flora and animals, deep forests, lush green fields, thrilling stream crossings and breathtaking views of rolling green hills from the peak.
2. Kurinjal Peak
One of the less well-known treks in the western ghats is the Kurinjal Peak Trek. Kurinjal is still one of the offbeat treks to do in the western ghats even though it is also located in the Kudremukh National Park, with Kudremukh getting more attention.
3. Kodachadri
This is another difficult trek that leads you to the top of Kodachadri (1343 m), Karnataka’s 10th highest peak. The trek begins in Nittur, a village near Shimoga and covers around 14 kilometres one way. The route passes through dense forests, meadows, streams and waterfalls, including the renowned Hidlumane Falls.
4. Mullayanagiri
At 1930 meters, this is Karnataka’s highest peak and one of the state’s easiest treks. The trek begins at Sarpadhari, a point on the Chikmagalur-Bababudangiri route and covers around 3 kilometres one way.
5. Ballalarayana Durga
Unknown to many, the trek from Ballalarayana Durga to Bandaje Falls includes two treks: Bandaje Arbi and Ballalarayana Durga. People often ignore going to the snout of the Bandaje Arbi. The Ballalarayana Durga Trek is located near Chikmagalur, which is nestled in Karnataka’s Western Ghats.
