Myths about aliens have long fueled human imagination and have found expression in popular art, from novels to movies. Individuals who believe in the story include those who connect the existence of strange places on Earth to alien beings.

Here are 5 ancient sites some people think were built by aliens

Sacsayhuaman, a fort on the outskirts of Cusco, Peru’s north, is believed by some to have been built by an ancient civilization with assistance from alien architects. The 1,000-year-old interlocking walls of the castle are built of rocks weighing up to 360 tons each. The rocks were transported for over 20 kilometres before being carried and placed with pinpoint precision.

2. The Nazca Lines

200 miles southeast of Lima, Peru, in the Nazca Desert, lies a strange collection of more than 800 long, straight, white lines arranged in seemingly random locations. Large-scale etchings of geometric designs and animals may also be found; the largest measures 1,200 feet. Some alien believers claim that these marks must be the creation of aliens because of their size, which makes them easily visible from the air.

3. Pyramids of Giza

Although most people believe that the iconic pyramids in Giza were built by the ancient Egyptian civilization, some sceptics believe that aliens also had a hand in the artwork. The Great Pyramid, for instance, consists of millions of carefully hewn stones weighing at least two tons each.

4. Stonehenge

Stonehenge, an ancient structure located in Wiltshire, England, inspired Swiss author Erich von Daniken to speculate that it was an alien launchpad. The monument is made out of a ring of standing stones, each measuring around 13 feet in height and 25 tons in weight.

5. Easter Island

Easter Island, a Chilean island in the southeast Pacific Ocean, is well-known for the nearly 1,000 gigantic human statues, called moai, that the ancient Rapa Nui people built. The figures appear to have been chiselled from soft volcanic tuff found in the Rano Raraku quarry. They are around 13 feet tall and weigh 14 tons.
