Ali Fazal has not only created a name for himself in the Hindi Film industry but also Hollywood with back to projects and the latest one being Death on the Nile. Though the actor is extremely happy with work coming his way, he says he will forever be hungry as an artiste. “I feel very happy with the work I’m doing. But I think for actors who are hungry, who use compassion in their craft to be able to tell stories, their potential will never be fully tapped. And that dissatisfaction, which I don’t think is a negative thing, will always be there. There will always be an urge to do more….to do better,” he says.
But it’s not limited to good characters. Fazal says, when he looks at the kind of films and shows being made, he feels that very essential stories need to be told. “In that sense, we are an untapped potential anyway. So there are few (makers) who are pushing the bar, and when you get to work with them, you feel like you’re part of something good.”
While there is a lot in his bag as an actor, Fazal is also working hard on his production house, trying to create content that resonates with audience. Ask him if creating a balance as an actor and producer pose challenges and he says, “I think art on its own is striking its balance these days and the world has gotten smaller. There’s so much to do. Earlier, there was a hierarchy in things. There was a chronological order that you had to follow. You had to be in line. But now I don’t have to do that. If I have a thought I can make it, I can construct it. I can learn to write. While my acting is happening, we figured there are some really essential stories we want to tell. We want people to come through us, and champion good work and grow with us. And then while telling great stories, we’re gonna be part of few of them. So it’s not like acting will take a backseat. I’m already juggling two different worlds. So I am definitely prioritizing what I need to at the moment,” he wraps up.
