GST Council sets appeal limits for Supreme Court to reduce litigation

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired a pre-budget meeting with Finance Ministers from all States and Union Territories at Bharat Mandapam. This meeting is part of the preparations for the Union Budget 2024-25. Among the participants were Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna and Rajasthan Finance Minister Diya Kumari.

The pre-budget meeting follows consultations with various economic stakeholders, including economists, finance experts, and industry bodies. Later in the day, Sitharaman also chaired the 53rd Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council Meeting.

During the GST Council Meeting, it was recommended to set a limit of Rs 1 crore for filing appeals in High Courts and Rs 2 crore for filing appeals in the Supreme Court. This move aims to reduce litigation.
