Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, set to begin tonight at 10:30 PM IST, will reportedly focus entirely on software, with no new hardware announcements expected. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple does not currently have any product ready to unveil, making this year’s WWDC a software-only affair.
No iPhone, Mac, or Apple Watch reveals this time
Unlike past WWDC events that included surprise hardware debuts, Apple is choosing to hold back on new devices in 2025. Reports suggest that the iPhone 17 series, next-gen Apple Watch models, updated Macs, and the new AirTag will be revealed later in the year, likely during the company’s traditional September keynote.
Although the new AirTag is believed to be close to launch, Gurman claims it isn’t considered significant enough for a WWDC reveal. Similarly, rumored devices like Apple’s smart home hub are unlikely to appear amid Apple’s renewed focus on delivery timelines and product readiness.
Software is the star at WWDC 2025
This year’s keynote will showcase major updates across Apple’s platforms, including:
-
iOS 26
-
iPadOS 26
-
macOS 26 (reportedly named macOS Tahoe)
-
watchOS 26
-
tvOS 26
-
visionOS 26
One of the most significant changes expected is a complete visual redesign, drawing inspiration from the Vision Pro’s interface. Users may see rounded icons, translucent effects, and smoother navigation across all Apple devices, reflecting a unified and modern aesthetic.
Apple is also reportedly changing its software naming convention. Instead of continuing from iOS 18 to iOS 19, the company will jump to iOS 26 to align version numbers with the year and ensure consistency across platforms.
Apple Intelligence to return with modest upgrades
After introducing Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, Apple is expected to focus this year’s AI improvements on stability and refinement rather than expanding its feature set. The shift comes following delays and limited rollouts last year that drew user criticism. Rather than add new tools, Apple is aiming to enhance the AI capabilities already announced.
What to expect
WWDC 2025 is shaping up to be a developer-focused event with polished software, better design, and improved performance at its core. While fans of Apple hardware may be disappointed, the updates revealed today could still meaningfully enhance how current devices look and work — laying the groundwork for a more seamless experience across the Apple ecosystem.
