WABAG shares jump over 2% in the morning trade after the company secured a significant repeat order from the Melamchi Water Supply Development Board (MWSDB) in Nepal. The fresh mandate involves the full Design, Build and Operate (DBO) development of the Sundarijal Water Treatment Plant, a major project that will supply 255 million litres of clean drinking water per day to the Kathmandu Valley. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is funding the project, signalling its long-term regional importance and its role in strengthening water security for a rapidly growing population.

Under the contract, WABAG will handle complete Engineering, Procurement and Construction over a 36-month execution period, followed by five years of comprehensive operations and maintenance. This model underscores WABAG’s position as not just an infrastructure developer, but also a long-term partner in managing critical water systems. The new plant will be located next to the earlier Melamchi Water Treatment Plant, which WABAG delivered successfully in 2017. Once operational, it will process water drawn from the Melamchi, Yangri and Larke rivers, ensuring adherence to Nepal’s National Drinking Water Quality Standards.

The award comes at a pivotal time for Kathmandu, where rising demand and rapid urban expansion continue to strain existing water infrastructure. Classified under the “large order” category, the project is estimated to be valued between USD 30 million and USD 75 million, highlighting both the scale and strategic relevance of this development.

As of 9:31 AM, WABAG shares were trading 1.89% higher at ₹1,430.10, reflecting positive investor sentiment following the announcement.
