Shares of Voltas surged 3% after the government reportedly eased BIS certification requirements on crucial air-conditioner and refrigerator components. As of 10:07 AM, the shares were trading 3.67% higher at Rs 1,521.20.
The move, aimed at preventing supply shortages ahead of an expected intense summer, is set to benefit the industry and boost production.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) exemption covers grooved copper tubes and AC compressors of two tonnes and above. While the relaxation for grooved copper tubes is valid until June 30, 2025, the exemption for larger AC compressors extends until February 10, 2026. These measures apply to both domestic and imported components, including those sourced from China.
Industry insiders have welcomed the decision, highlighting concerns over high local prices and limited domestic manufacturing capacity. With the relaxation, manufacturers can now secure essential components without regulatory bottlenecks, ensuring steady production and availability in the market.
