Shares of Vodafone Idea surged sharply on Monday, rising nearly 10% to ₹9.60 on the NSE, after reports indicated that the telecom operator may move the Supreme Court again regarding its pending adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues case.
The stock, which opened at ₹8.90, had been trading muted through the day before spiking sharply post-2 pm. The rally came after updates that the company is expected to file a fresh plea seeking clarity on the apex court’s observation that its previous petition challenged only the additional demand of ₹9,450 crore, and not the entire AGR liability.
Vodafone Idea is likely to highlight that its earlier plea was specifically against the extra dues raised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) beyond the Supreme Court’s original AGR judgment.
The telco currently faces total AGR dues of over ₹83,500 crore as of March 2025.
The move comes at a critical time for the company, which continues to pursue fundraising and network expansion plans amid efforts to stabilise operations and compete with larger rivals Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.
